My artistic practice is rooted in traditional representation and methods, but I constantly challenge my understanding of “painting” and explore ways paint can represent effects such as light, time, movement and climate. I really enjoy the process of painting, aiming to keep experimenting with new ways of mark-making to create scenes where it feels you are in that moment.
I grew up on the East Coast of Scotland where the big skies and wild beaches inspire my work today.
I studied painting at the wonderful Glasgow School of Art where I was awarded the John D Kelly Fellowship, The Mary Armour Award for Work of distinction by a Young Artist and also won the The Scottish Drawing Competition Student Award. After moving South I continued my artistic studies with further courses in printmaking at Putney School of Art, Ochre Print Studios, and Morley College in London where I won The John Purcell Prize as part of the exhibition MADE 2017 at the Morley Gallery, London.
More recently I have been Artist in Residence and Teacher of Art at City of London Freemen's School.
I am now appreciating the time I have to paint and create pieces of work for clients to cherish.
